Points and Point Allocation
The number of points you have available with which to create a
character will vary. The sections below give costs for various
aspects of your character, all of which are taken from the same
points pool. Anything not given a cost is free.
Please note that costs for Ancestry and Magic can vary depending on whether your character
is from Athory or Lathany.
Base Character Type
There are three basic character types. Unlike many 'character class'
systems, these types have no significance at all in the game world
and, indeed, your character need not even conform to the implied
behaviour of the type you pick (for example, a 'warrior' need never
engage in combat of any kind). Your choice of type will, however,
have a large impact on the cost of your other stats.
Warrior
Warrior characters have no magical talents but are skilled in physical combat. As a consequence they
are probably the least vulnerable character type, though this may not translate into a long life if
they often put their combat skills into practice.

Warrior-Mage
Warrior-mages are probably the commonest character type since, as the name implies, they
combine some of the advantages of both warriors and mages. They tend to suffer worse than most
from a shortage of character points and (perhaps obviously) are neither quite as combat
capable as the best warriors nor as magically skilled as the best mages.

Mage
Mage characters are not skillful at physical combat but are, however, highly proficient in one or
more magical paths. Mage characters have the potential to be the most powerful, but also have perhaps
the shortest life-expectancy since they are even more vulnerable than non-combatants due to their
high focus scores.

Ancestry
There is no surer route to success than to be born great. This can take a number of forms,
but most will cost character points.
Nobility
Nobility in Lathany and Athory means being related to someone ruling a piece of land (large or small).
In Lathany this is King/Baron/Lord and in Athory this is Duke/Lord.
There is a spread of costs to determine the importance of the relationship.
| No relation to nobility | Relation to Lathany Lord/Lady | Relation to Lathany Baron |
Relation to Athory Lord/Lady | Relation to Athory Duke/Duchess |
| 0 | 15-30 | 40-60 | 20-50 | 60-80 |
Blood line - Athory only
Some of the Athory familes can trace their bloodline back to the old Empire. These families keep records
of their history and some of the older legends of the continent.
| No bloodline | Bloodline traced back to old Empire |
| 0 | 20-100 |
Magic
All paths are available to all Lathany characters at no extra cost.
